What is Your Intention?

This is part of the Super Speaker Series – What is your intention? Why do you want to improve your communication skills?

Transcript:

We’re getting ready for the super speaker series – become the best speaker you can be. But first I want to take a step back and look at intention. Why is it that you want to communicate? Ask yourself the why. I think we can all go back to one simple baseline and that is we want to be heard. Whether that means “Leave me alone and don’t talk to me” or “I want to share with you all what I’ve been working on, all that I believe. And I want to show you how to better your life.” Whatever that is it all comes down to intention. What is your intention?

I’ve talked about this earlier in “Be engaged in your life” and “What is the purpose of your life” but I come back to it because it is so important. It is the skeleton on which everything else is built, it’s your foundation. What is your intention? You know, so often in life we get caught up in the day-to-day–we do the same thing or we go to the same job or we have the same problems. What can you do to break out of that? The first step is taking some quiet time for yourself, just to get quiet. Whether it’s a walk in nature, a jog around the local high school track, whether it’s meditating for 15 minutes or doing yoga for longer. Take time for yourself to get centered and to visualize for yourself and to think for yourself “What is it that I want? What is it that I want to do? What do I dream of doing?” Write down a dream list for yourself all those things you dream of doing. Write them down so that you can have an intention as to what you want to work towards and you can see clearly in black and white what it is that excites you, what it is that inspires you.

Some of us are existing, some of us are thriving. Sometimes that happens for all of us at different points in our lives, but today is the first day of the rest of your life, as the expression goes. And today is the day to create the opportunity for yourself, to take time to write out a dream list to see what your intention is in life. What it is that drives you. Write that down and let’s have a look at that in our next session.
